What Is an Industrial Communication Headset?
An industrial communication headset combines certified hearing protection with built-in communication technology, letting workers talk face-to-face, take a radio call, or connect via Bluetooth® without removing their PPE.
That's different from traditional earmuffs or earplugs, which only block sound. Industrial communication headsets process sound: enhancing speech, suppressing hazardous noise, and preserving awareness of the surrounding environment.

The Communication Challenge
Noise is one of the most consistent hazards on industrial sites, and it does more than damage hearing, it breaks down the communication workers rely on to stay safe.
OSHA requires a hearing conservation program once noise exposure reaches 85 dB(A) over an 8-hour shift, with construction triggering similar controls above 90 dB(A) (29 CFR 1910.95). Many plants, mine sites, and job sites run above that threshold for an entire shift, where normal conversation becomes difficult even at close range.
Traditional hearing protection makes this worse, not better, because it blocks speech along with noise:
• Instructions get missed or repeated, especially near moving equipment
• Alarms and warning signals can be masked by continuous machinery noise
• Workers lift or remove protection to communicate, undoing the protection they're required to wear
• Situational awareness drops when protection isolates a worker from all ambient sound
