Announcing a Compatible Cable for Jem II and Sensear’s Noise Suppression & Speech Enhancement Headsets

Over the years, providing engineers and conductors with proper hearing protection when they are in the clean cab has been a problem—until now.

In collaboration with JEM Communications, Inc., Sensear has developed a compatible JEM Radio II cable to work with Sensear’s SM1B and SM1P headsets which provide vital hearing protection from the noise of diesel engines, cab vibration, retarder squeal, breaking, coupling, horns, and other high-noise factors that engineers and conductors frequently encounter in day-to-day operations.

There are a variety of different activities within a clean cab (whether traveling or in the rail yard) that can create significant and harmful noise levels, particularly with long-term exposure. The U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) requires industry employers to provide hearing protection to their employees when noise exposure equals or exceeds 85 dB(A) or more over an 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA). That is why providing workers with Sensear’s noise-canceling headsets is critical to mitigating the serious risk of hearing loss.

Sensear’s technology enhances communication, productivity, and employee safety.

Sensear headsets offer four modes of communication: face-to-face via SENS® Technology, FM frequency short-range, cabled or wirelessly to a two-way radio, Bluetooth®, or all four simultaneously.

JEM Communications and Sensear provide a complete high-noise communication solution for the railway industry—enabling engineers to communicate clearly face-to-face in the cab and seamlessly connect to their JEM Radio II system to communicate with maintenance crews, yard dispatch, and other trains.

You need hearing protection, but you also need to maintain complete awareness of your surroundings. Sensear’s SENS® Technology elevates noise cancellation by isolating and enhancing human speech while reducing harmful background noise. With Sensear headsets, users can maintain 360° situational awareness of their environments, discerning the nature, distance, and directionality of all sounds, including on-coming trains, cranes, machinery, horns, alarms, and speech.

Sensear devices meet industry-required hearing protection certification standards, ensuring effective hearing protection for users in high-noise environments. Sensear devices are certified to maintain a maximum in-ear output of 82 dB(A), even in noise levels up to 120 dB(A).

With the newly released JEM Radio II compatible radio cable, engineers and conductors can now experience reliable communication and enhanced hearing protection while in the clean cab.
